The Huskies are heading back to the State Tournament! Hewitt-Trussville Softball (45-2-1 overall) went undefeated in the East Central Regional on Friday to book a spot in Oxford. The Huskies opened the day with a 12-2 victory over Central Phenix City. HT got off to a quick start by scoring five runs in the opening inning. Coach
Taylor Burt's team had five singles and a walk to put the runs on the board.
The Huskies would add six more runs in the 5th inning to put the game away.
Anyce Harvey,
Jenna Lord, Madi Mitchell, and
Katelyn Murphy all had multiple hits.
Rylee Tyree drove in three runs.
Sara Phillips was the winning pitcher as she tossed six innings and allowed just one earned run.
Later Friday, the Huskies beat Auburn 11-4 in the winners bracket game.
Jenna Lord singled in the first inning to score two runs.
Rylee Tyree added a RBI hit to extend the lead to 3-0. In the 2nd inning, Lord doubled off the wall in center to score three runners. The Huskies would add five more runs in the 4th inning. Lord finished the game 2-4 with five RBI's.
Hannah Dorsett had two hits and scored twice.
Tori Hyde pitched a complete game and struck out five batters.
The Huskies will travel to Oxford May 20-21 for the 7A State Tournament. The event will be an eight team double-elimination format. HT's first game will be May 20 at 9am.
