HTHS Junior
Gabe Knox was selected to participate in the AHSAA Cross Country All-Star event that will be held in Montgomery this summer. AHSADCA Director J.T. Lawrence
said this year's field features a number of runners who will be battling for the AHSAA state cross country championships next fall. "Last summer's North-South all-star competition was outstanding," said Lawrence. "And judging by the outstanding teams assembled by the coaches' selection committee this year, we can expect exciting races this coming July." Knox and his teammates finished 2nd in the 7A Section 3 Meet this Fall and placed 3rd at the AHSAA State Meet.
Joining Knox at the event will be HT Head Cross Country Coach
Matthew Michalke. The Alabama High School Athletic Association named Michalke as the head coach for the North Boys team. In 2021, Coach Michalke was named the Head Coach for Cross Country and Assistant Coach for Track & Field, where he works with the distance runners during the Indoor and Outdoor seasons. In his four seasons as head coach, the Girls cross country team has qualified for the State meet each year. In 2023, the Girls team won the 7A Section 3 meet and went on to finish as Runner-Up at the State meet, marking the highest finish in school history. The Boys team has also qualified for the State meet each year and have finished as high as 3rd under his leadership. Both teams have produced multiple All-State runners in Cross Country.
