Hewitt-Trussville Varsity Baseball is playoff bound.
The Huskies went on the road Tuesday night and took down Hoover 8-3 in a big-time win to secure their spot in the postseason.
Hoover struck first in the third inning, building a 3-0 lead, but Hewitt-Trussville stayed composed and responded when it mattered most. In the top of the fifth, the Huskies broke the game open with a six-run inning. Hudson Mitchell delivered the biggest swing of the night, driving in three runs on a clutch double to give Hewitt the lead for good.
Mitchell led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Jace Riggan added two hits and scored twice. The Huskies made the most of their opportunities, finishing with six hits and eight runs in an efficient offensive performance.
On the mound, Mitchell also got it done, pitching five innings with five strikeouts to earn the win. Rylan Clark came in and shut things down late, tossing two innings of relief with three strikeouts to secure the victory.
Defensively, Hewitt-Trussville played a clean game with no errors, backing up their pitching in a complete team effort.
Big win. Big moment. The Huskies are headed to the playoffs.
