The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team rallied on Wednesday night to defeat Chelsea 46-41 and win the Area championship. This marked just the second time in school history that the Huskies have won consecutive Area titles. The win also capped a perfect 11-0 home record inside Bryant Bank Arena.

Chelsea got off to a quick start Wednesday night and led 15-8 after the opening quarter. Defense dominated the 2nd quarter as each team scored just five points apiece, and the Huskies entered the locker room trailing 20-13. Ryleigh Martin scored seven points in the 3rd quarter including going 4-4 at the foul line. HT would cut the deficit to three with just one quarter remaining.

The Hornets led by six points with just minutes left to play in the game. Mia Ada made her third three-point shot of the quarter to cut the lead to three. Sara Phillips scored and was fouled on the next possession. Phillips connected on the free throw to tie the game 41-41. Olivia Burton then made a steal and raced for a basket to give the Huskies the lead with 40 seconds left. Senior Jordan Hunter iced the game at the foul line with three clutch shots. 

Jordan Hunter led the Huskies with 14 points. Ryleigh Martin added 13 points and Mia Ada contributed 10 points.

The Huskies will now play in the Sweet 16 round at Jacksonville State University. HT will meet Grissom on Tuesday February 13. Details concerning the Northeast Regional will be released later this week.
