HTHS 2024 SCORING AND SKILLS

CHEER- Up to 15 points                                                                                                                                        
 Voice- volume, fillers, inflection; (Motions-sharp/clean/ correct placement; Presence- crowd involving/natural confidence/high energy/ use of signs/timing; knowledge of material; inflection; Skills-jumps/back handspring/back tuck)
  • Everyone will perform a cheer (as a small group).
  • Out of 12 for backhandspring
  • Out of 15 for standing tuck
 
JUMPS- 10 points                                                                                                                                   
    (Approach-sharp/correct placement; Height-level/extended; Body Position-torso, legs, arms, pointed toes/flexibility; Landing- controlled/feet together)   * See further requirements/optional skills page.
  • 5 points -Toe Touch
  • 5 points- Optional Jump--Must be a double jump or a jump connected to a back handspring or tuck. Ex. Toe-Touch/Front Hurdler, Toe-Touch/Double Toe-Touch Back Tuck
DANCE - 5 points

Fight Song- 10 points
(Motions-sharp/clean/ correct placement; Presence- crowd involving/natural confidence/high energy/ use of signs/timing; Voice- knowledge of material; inflection; Skills-Switch up lib and pop off or straight up lib and pop off) Stunt groups will be assigned.        
             

Everything above this line will be judged by an outside judging panel on day 5.

TUMBLING- 25 points                                                                                                                          
  
(Technique-body position/approach/landing; height) * See further requirements/optional page; we will ask to see all skills on the list and will not limit the girls to just one skill; skills will be done every day of clinic; spots will only be allowed 1-2 times per day; candidates should not ask for a spot unless they have performed the skill solo prior to attending clinic. This is not a time to learn new skills.
  • 10 points- Standing Tumbling- In order in order of difficulty: standing handspring, standing series, cartwheel handspring, handspring tuck, cartwheel tuck, standing tuck, tuck hand tuck, handsprings to layout, handsprings to full, cartwheel full, standing full
  • 15 points Running Tumbling- In order of difficulty: Round off back handspring, Round off series, Round off tuck, Round off handspring tuck, Round off handspring layout, Round off handspring full
STUNTING- 25 points          
Stunt groups will be assigned during the stunt clinic and tryout week. Each participant will be given at least one stunt group to work with. They will be given multiple chances to work with others throughout the tryout clinics. They will be judged based on their technique and leadership as an individual. Stunt groups and positions will be made, but there is no guarantee that requests will be honored. Please, do not request a stunt group that you have never worked with.
 
Recommended skills to practice:
  • Straight up lib, heel stretch, arabesque, scale
  • Switch up lib, heel stretch, arabesque (quarter turn during release)
  • High to high tic toc
  • Full up to two feet and pull through
  • Full twisting switch up
  • High to high full around 
  • Back handspring up/round off up
  • Hand in hand  with purdue mount
  • Corkscrew down to J down grip   
Mile Run- 5 points
 Athletes will run the mile on day two or three of the tryout week. Athletes will receive points based on their mile run time. We are looking for athletes to be able to run a mile in less than 9 minutes. Athletes will be awarded points based on their time.
Staff Review- 5 points
Teacher and coach reviews   (Teachers will receive a list of candidates and an opportunity  to provide feedback.) Coaches will be looking for positive attitudes, work ethic, timeliness, attendance, coachability, and responsiveness to feedback throughout clinics and tryouts.            
OPTIONAL SKILLS FOR JUMPS, TUMBLING, STUNTING
Listed below are suggestions for optional skills. The skills are ranked by degree of difficulty. Each optional skill will be judged on technique, execution, and degree of difficulty. Perform all of the skills that you do well. Remember, skills performed at tryouts are required for the remainder of the year. If there is a skill not listed which you would like to perform, please get skills approved by one of the coaches.
