Andie Freedman has been hired by Trussville City Schools to serve as a HTHS teacher and Varsity Head Volleyball coach.
Freedman has served as the Varsity Head Volleyball coach at Homewood High School since 2020. The Patriots reached the Final Four in 2021 and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2020, 2022, and 2023. Freedman's team won the Area Championship in 2022 and 2023 and were the Area Runner-Up in 2020 and 2021.
Coach Freedman coached players to post season awards including All-OTM team, AVCA First Team All-State, AVCA All-State Honorable Mention, AHSAA North-South All-Star selection, All-Super Regional Team and several players have continued their volleyball careers at the collegiate level. Freedman also has experience hosting large, elite tournaments, as she co-directed the Blalock Tournament during her tenure at Homewood.
From 2015-2019, Freedman served as an assistant coach at Hoover High School. The Bucs were the state runner-up in 2016. Hoover advanced to the Final 4 in 2018 and 2019 and advanced to the Elite 8 in 2015 and 2017.
Outside of the school setting, Freedman has worked with the Birmingham Volleyball Club since 2015. She is also a member of USAV and AAU organizations and holds SafeSport, Impact, and Double-Goal Coach Certifications.
Coach Freedman stated, "I'm excited to join the Hewitt-Trussville family and for this amazing opportunity to teach and lead the volleyball program. Trussville is a special community with an enthusiasm for athletics and a tradition of excellence. I'm really looking forward to working with Mr. Walker, Mr. King, and the rest of the community to positively impact the lives of our student- athletes and to continue to raise the standard of volleyball in Trussville. Hewitt-Trussville High School Principal Aaron King stated, "We at Hewitt-Trussville High School are proud to welcome Coach Freedman! Her coaching talent and experience on the court is complimented by her teaching talent and experience in the classroom. The future of Husky volleyball is bright!
Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Lance Walker added, "I am excited to welcome Coach Freedman to Trussville. We are excited about the future of our volleyball program under her leadership. Coach Freedman has championship level experience as a head coach and assistant coach in the Birmingham area. We look forward to supporting her and our team as we prepare for the 2024 season."
Freedman went to Vestavia Hills High School and graduated in 2004. She played volleyball for the University of South Carolina and was an All-SEC Honor Roll selection during the 2004-2005 school year. She later transferred to UAB and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Economics, Policy, and Consumer Behavior. She added a Master's degree in Secondary Education from UAB.
