Coach Blume stated, “I am so excited to be coming to Hewitt-Trussville and taking over such a great program. It is very bittersweet to leave Southside after 10 years, and they will have outstanding teams coming back, but this is the right move for me and my family. Following Coach Abney won’t be easy, but I’m ready to get to know the kids and get to work. Hewitt has an incredible tradition in Bowling going all the way back to the 1970s and I can’t wait to get started adding to that tradition and bring home a few more blue maps!”

Hewitt-Trussville High School Principal Aaron King stated, “When I learned Coach Abney would be retiring I knew we would have our work cut out for us in finding a replacement. I truly believe we have the perfect fit for Hewitt-Trussville High School in Coach Blume. Not only has he coached Bowling at a high level, he is also an exceptionally skilled math teacher. I look forward to cheering our student-athlete bowlers on to many more wins under Coach Blume’s leadership!”

Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Lance Walker added, “We are excited to welcome Coach Blume to Trussville. He is a championship coach that is well respected around our state. I am excited about his vision to continue building the sport of Bowling in Trussville. I look forward to supporting Coach Blume and our Bowling student-athletes.”

Tommy Abney, who served as the HT Bowling Coach since 2017, stated “Zac is the most respected coach in the state. Since I took over, Zac has done as much as possible to help me grow and help the sport of bowling grow. It is an honor to see Zac take over and I am excited to see where he takes the program.”
