Ashelie Halla has been hired by Trussville City Schools to serve as a HTHS teacher and Varsity Head Cheer coach. 

Halla joins the Huskies after serving as a teacher at Spain Park High School since 2014. She was the Head Cheer Coach at Spain Park from 2014-2023. She prepared the varsity cheerleaders for football and basketball while also planning special events around the school and community. She created the competition cheer team and earned top NHSCC finishes. 

From 1992-2004 Coach Halla served as the Spirit Coordinator/Cheer and Dance Coach at UAB. She coached and supervised the co-ed cheer squad, all-girl cheer squad, and Golden Girls Dance team. The Blazers had numerous top-10 finishes and appeared on CBS, ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC. 

Coach Halla was named to the Who's Who in America's Cheer Coaches three times. She has been a seminar speaker for the Universal Cheer and Dance Association. Halla has choreographed winning routines in high school and college in five different states. 

Coach Halla said, "I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Hewitt-Trussville family. Trussville is a community that is deeply committed to excellence, both academically and athletically. The cheer program at Hewitt has a remarkable history and tradition, and I look forward to continuing that path of success. I am eager to begin working with these talented athletes to help them reach their full potential, both on the sidelines and on the competition floor, as proud representatives of the Trussville community."

HTHS Principal Aaron King stated, "Coach Halla brings the experience, leadership, and vision we were looking for. She understands how to build a program that develops students, honors tradition, and competes at a high level. Cheer plays an important role in our school culture, and we are confident she will have a strong impact on our students and our community as we continue to pursue excellence."

Athletics Director Lance Walker added, "I am excited to have Coach Halla on board to lead our Cheer program. She has great experience at both the high school and collegiate levels and I am confident that she will make a tremendous impact on the program. Hewitt-Trussville Cheer has a long history of success, and I am excited for our future under Coach Halla's leadership."

Coach Halla graduated from The University of Montevallo with a degree in Business Marketing. She later added a Master's in English Language Arts from Samford University. She is married to her husband, Clay, and they have three children. Their son Parker and his wife, Taylor, reside in Sarasota, FL, with their grandson, Banks. Their daughter Clayton Ann and her husband, Sam, reside in Auburn, AL, and their son Garrett lives in Birmingham.
