At the Trussville City Schools Board of Education meeting on February 19, Jackie Cox was approved as the Hewitt-Trussville Varsity Head Volleyball Coach. Cox served as the Junior Varsity Head Coach in 2018 after a successful tenure in Tennessee. Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Lance Walker said, "We are thankful that Jackie and her husband moved to Trussville last year. She was an asset to our Volleyball program last season, and we are all excited about the future. Coach Cox brings a wealth of experience as a player and a coach. I look forward to supporting her and working with her to make HT Volleyball the best it can be."
Coach Cox worked at Cookeville High School in Tennessee from 2007-2017. In the classroom, Cox taught Chemistry, Physical Science, and Honors Physical World Concepts. During her first year, she served as a volunteer assistant, then spent one year as the Freshmen Coach. Cox then spent two years as the JV Head Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach. She took over the Varsity Head coach position in 2011.
During her time as Varsity Head Coach at Cookeville, her teams won 188 matches over a seven year period. Her 2015 team went 35-5 and won two tournaments during the year. Cox led her teams to seven straight district championships. Her 2014 team won 28 matches and captured the region title.
Cox served as a Science teacher and Head Volleyball Coach at Fuquay Varina High School in North Carolina from 2005-2007. Upon arriving at FVHS the volleyball team had won one game. Cox in her first year went 4-16 and 9-12 in her second season before moving to Tennessee. While in North Carolina she also coached club volleyball for the NC Challengers where her 17-2 team placed 5th in the Gold division and 5th out of 60 other teams in the region. Prior to her stint in North Carolina, Cox was the Graduate Assistant Volleyball Coach at West Alabama. From 2000-2004 Cox taught Science and coached Volleyball at Parkway Christian Academy where they earned the Area title in her last 2 seasons.
Coach Cox graduated cum laude from Mississippi University for Women in 1999 with a degree in Chemistry. During her 2 year MUW career she was voted as the 1998-1999 team captain, best offensive player, and was named to the All GSC West 2nd team and earned the 1997-1998 coach's award. In 1997, she earned her Associates degree from Bevill State Community College where she played basketball and volleyball. While there she received the 1997 Roy Martin Award for the most outstanding athlete, an honor that is only awarded to one male athlete and one female athlete.
Cox graduated from Erwin High school in 1995 where she was a quadruple sport athlete. As a senior she was nominated to the All-Metro, All-Area and All-County volleyball teams and received her team's best offensive player award.
Cox and her husband Thomas reside in Trussville with their children Johnna 10, Teagen 7 and Jorja 3.
