The Hewitt-Trussville Boys Basketball team traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi before Christmas to compete in the Jackie Laird Classic. It proved to be a successful trip for Hewitt as the team went 2-0 against two of the Magnolia state's top teams.

HT 58 St Martin (MS) 56
The Huskies opened with St. Martin (MS). The teams traded baskets for most of the first quarter and St. Martin led 19-16 after the opening quarter. The Huskies struggled at the end of the second quarter and trailed 31-23 at halftime. The lead would extend to 11 late in the third quarter before Hewitt would rally. The Huskies scored the last seven points of the third quarter to cut the lead to 44-40. Coach Marcus Thomas' team would ride that momentum in the final quarter. They finally took the lead with just over four minutes left. With just a few seconds left, St. Martin had the ball down by two points. The Huskies defense held strong on the final possession to get the win.

Damon Harper led the team with 15 points. TJ Alexander scored 13 points and Cameron Glover added 11 points.

HT 50 Long Beach (MS) 46
Hewitt finished the event with a big win over Long Beach (MS). The Huskies led by five points at halftime and controlled the game throughout. The Huskies hit some key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Bryant Howell led the Huskies with 12 points. Damon Harper added 11 points for the winning team.

Following the game, Damon Harper and TJ Alexander were named to the All-Tournament team. The Huskies (10-3) will be back in action on January 2 as they host Pell City.
