The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team opened area play on Monday night by defeating Gadsden City 65-16. With the win, the Huskies improved to 10-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in 7A Area 7. Coach Tonya Hunter's team got off to a quick start and led 24-2 after the opening quarter. The Huskies extended the lead to 40-9 as the teams went to the locker room at halftime.

Erica Jones led the team in scoring as she netted 17 points. Three other players scored in double figures for Hewitt. Morgan Kirk scored 15, London Coleman scored 11, and Leah Harrison added 10 points. Coach Hunter said, "It was important for us to get off to a good start in area play. I am pleased that we were able to do that tonight."

The Huskies will be back at home again on Friday as Grissom visits for another area contest.
