Huskies defeat Callaway (MS) 65-28 to Open the 2017 Season
Hewitt-Trussville opened the 2017 season with a 65-28 win over the Callaway Chargers. Junior quarterback Paul Tyson had a productive night as he threw for four touchdowns. Senior TE/WR Logan Pitts was on the receiving end of three of those touchdown passes. The Huskies offense also got it done on the ground as they rushed for five touchdowns. Elliott McElwain and Antonio Reed had two touchdowns each, while Camaron Bledsoe also added a score. The Huskies gave up an early touchdown to Callaway and trailed 6-0. Then, the Huskies took control by scoring the next 30 points to take a 30-6 lead. Callaway battled back, and when they scored on the last play of the half, they went to the locker room trailing 44-28. The Huskies' defense pitched a shutout in the second half and Malachi Moore set the tone. With Callaway driving to open the 3rd quarter, Moore picked off a Charger pass and returned it 30 yards. The Huskies would take advantage of the interception and the game was never again in doubt. Hewitt-Trussville will host Gadsden City on September 8 as region play begins.
