The Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball team if off to a great start as they opened the 2017-2018 season by winning the championship of the 2017 Saint James Basketball Tip-Off Tournament. The event was held Friday and Saturday at Saint James School in Montgomery.

The Huskies opened the tournament with a game against Park Crossing on Friday. Coach Tonya Hunter's team played well as they won 65-29. On Saturday the team played Prattville Christian in the semi-finals and won 56-22. That set up the championship game between the Huskies and Loachapoka. The team hit 11 three-pointers and won 70-30.

Coach Tonya Hunter said, "This tournament was a tune up tournament to see where we were as a team. Our team went down to Montgomery and did a lot of positive things. Our chemistry is strong this year and the kids are having fun. We are excited about the rest of the season."

The Huskies will be in action on Tuesday as they travel to Clay-Chalkville. The first home game is scheduled for Thursday as the team will host Center Point.
